Update 5 August 2021, 9.10am:

An update from the Principal – COVID-19:
Good morning parents and caregivers,
I would like to a say a huge thank you to our staff, student and parent community for your responsiveness to the changing environment this week. Given the lockdown extension for the 11 LGAs across SEQ until Sunday 8 August, it is timely to remind parents and students of the latest advice.
If your child was in one of the 11 Local Government areas on or after 1:00am on Saturday July 31 they are required to remain home from school for the remainder of this school week (until Friday 6 August 2021).
Years 7-10 are able to access learning@home resources here: https://education.qld.gov.au/curriculum/learning-at-home. Students in senior school under lockdown restrictions should stay in touch with their teachers via email.
Any students working from home should stay in contact with their teachers via email.
Parents are asked to respond to the attendance text message with the word “LOCKDOWN” for this to be an authorised absence.
If parents are essential workers or the student is identified as vulnerable, these students may attend school but must wear a mask at all times.
In the event that students are required to have a mask and don’t have one (for whatever reason) they will be directed to the main office to be provided with one.
I ask that you continue to monitor the school’s Facebook page and website in the event of any changes or additions to these restrictions. I also ask our parent and carer community to continue refraining from visiting our Administration visit where possible and phoning instead – our Administration Staff are more than happy to help with any enquires you may have.
Thank you for doing your bit to keep us all safe,
Jackson Dodd
Principal

Update 2 August, 9.30am:

A reminder that parents are requested to ONLY attend our school Admin Building where it is absolutely necessary today and in the coming days.
Any parents and caregivers who do attend must check in on the COVID-Safe app in Admin upon arrival and abide by COVID-19 hygiene guidelines.
If you have any enrolment enquiries, please phone us directly on 5480 6303 instead of attending the office. You can also download an enrolment pack from our website: https://jamesnashshs.eq.edu.au/enrolments
Please help us to keep our staff and students COVID-19 safe.

Update 1 August:

Good evening,
As you would be aware, on Saturday, the Premier announced a three-day lockdown, from 4pm Saturday 31 July 2021 until 4pm Tuesday 3 August 2021 in 11 Local Government Areas to our south.
Further information from the Chief Health Officer states that:
If your child was in one of the 11 Local Government areas on or after 1:00am on Saturday July 31 they are required to remain home from school.
Parents are asked to respond to the attendance text message with the word “LOCKDOWN” for this to be an authorised absence.
If parents are essential workers or the student is identified as vulnerable, these students may attend school but must wear a mask at all times.
This is an evolving situation and as always, we will be guided by the advice of the Queensland’s Chief Health Officer and Education Queensland.

Update 31 July:

Important COVID Update: A message from the Principal
Good evening parents, caregivers and students,
As you will be aware, there is now a 3-day lockdown imposed for the following South East Queensland LGAs:
- Brisbane City Council
- Logan City Council
- Moreton Bay Regional Council
- Ipswich City Council
- Redland City Council
- Sunshine Coast Regional Council
- Gold Coast City Council
- Noosa Shire Council
- Somerset Regional Council
- Lockyer Valley Regional Council
- Scenic Rim Regional Council.
Some of our students and staff may reside or have been within these areas. Student and staff safety remains paramount to the operation of our school, and as such, we will be operating under the following considerations in the coming days:
- School will be open and classes will continue as normal.
- Excursions to the Sunshine Coast Eisteddfod and the Gateways program to Mimburi are cancelled and students are expected to attend school.
- Students who were in any of the above LGAs as of 1:00am Saturday 31 July are required to:
▪ Wear a mask while travelling on school buses and whilst attending school;
▪ Not attend any out of hours activities associated with school e.g. Eisteddfod.

- Parents are requested to only attend school where it is absolutely necessary. Any parents and caregivers who do attend must check in on the COVID-Safe app in Admin upon arrival and abide by COVID-19 hygiene guidelines.
- Parent Teacher interviews planned for Tuesday evening will be cancelled. Any parents who have made appointments will be contacted by phone by the relevant teachers across the course of the week.
School will continue to promote COVID-safe practices to students and we request your support with this. In the event that students are required to have a mask and don’t have one (for whatever reason) they will be directed to the main office to be provided with one.
It is timely to ensure that students have a device and are aware of their password and email details to ensure they may access online resources and materials. In the event that a school is required to close or our community is forced into sudden lockdown, we will need to quickly transition to online learning, as we have successfully done before.
I have been extremely impressed in the manner in which the James Nash community has responded to the changes and restrictions COVID has placed on our school before. I thank you in advance for your patience, co-operation and understanding.
Please continue to monitor our Facebook page and website in the event of future changes.
Jackson Dodd
Principal, James Nash SHS
