At James Nash State High School, we are proud to offer a wide range of high-quality facilities that support academic, vocational, sporting, and creative excellence. Our learning spaces are designed to foster student engagement, innovation and real-world application.
Academic & Learning Spaces
79 classroom spaces, including:
72 air-conditioned classrooms
7 science laboratories, plus a Biotechnology Lab, Chemistry Project Lab and Physics Project Lab
4 workshops for woodwork, metalwork and design
2 construction sheds
2 modern Home Economics kitchens, including a demonstration bench
Library and Technology Hub with access to computers, research tools, quiet study spaces, and tech support available before and after school and during breaks
Outdoor Learning Area (OLA) and gazebos provide additional quiet study spaces for senior students
Passenger lift available in our two-storey K Block
Vocational & Hospitality
Student-run café and coffee shop open twice a week for staff and students, operated by Hospitality students in the top kitchen (H5)
Hospitality Courtyard for community functions hosted by students, including events for parent groups and local organisations such as SES and Little Haven Palliative Care
Jimmy's Hospitality Caravan serving hot and cold drinks from the refurbished Senior Courtyard two mornings a week
The Arts
2 classroom music rooms equipped with keyboards, guitars, drums and music technology
2 instrumental music rooms for full ensemble and small group rehearsals
3 classrooms purpose-built for dance and drama
2 visual art studios featuring a kiln and an outdoor creative courtyard
1 professional dance studio with wall-to-wall mirrors and polished timber flooring
Specialist facilities and equipment to support delivery of the Certificate II in Creative Industries
Sports & Recreation
Multi-Purpose Sports Courts (MPS) host school assemblies, sports awards, ANZAC services, and student leadership ceremonies. Available for community use after school hours
4 ovals used for curriculum sports activities. The main oval is a venue for Gympie District and Wide Bay sporting events (primarily Rugby Union) and is hired by local sporting organisations on weekends
Community & Event Spaces
PA Block includes a 200-seat auditorium with industry-standard sound and lighting systems, used for assemblies, guest lectures, and student performances; available for community hire outside school hours
I Block hosts external events such as parent information evenings, regional school challenges, and community functions
Student Support
Student Support Hub (E Block) houses Guidance Officers, Social Workers, a Youth Support Coordinator, Community Education Counsellor, Student Wellbeing Officer, School-Based Youth Health Nurse, and Transition Pathways Officer
Targeted Learning Centre / B Block Support Hub provides additional learning support, sensory rooms, breakout spaces, and a secluded courtyard
Multiple shaded outdoor areas across the campus offer students comfortable break-time spaces
Tuckshop
In the coming weeks, our school Tuckshop will begin a major renovation to enhance functionality, improve service, and create a more modern space for students and staff. During this time, the tuckshop will operate at limited capacity, offering a reduced selection of affordable and nutritious food options. We appreciate your patience and support as we work towards completing the upgrade—expected by Term 4.
CCTV
Closed circuit television (CCTV) has been installed at James Nash State High School, for the purpose of deterring and recording unauthorised and/or illegal activity on school grounds, including vandalism, unlawful entry, inappropriate behaviour and graffiti.
Images and/or footage recorded by the Department of Education may be provided to the Queensland Police Service.
