At James Nash State High School, leadership is more than a badge or a title—it’s a mindset, a journey, and a powerful opportunity for personal growth. We believe every student has the potential to lead, and we’re proud to offer a wide range of leadership pathways that empower students to step up, speak out, and make a difference.
Leadership at James Nash SHS is about learning through experience. Whether students are organising events, guiding their peers, representing their culture, or leading on the field, they’re gaining essential life skills—responsibility, resilience, communication, and teamwork—that extend far beyond the classroom.
Why Leadership Matters
Taking on a leadership role builds confidence and courage. It means stepping outside your comfort zone, making decisions, facing challenges, and learning from every success and setback. These experiences not only shape strong, capable leaders but also prepare students for thriving futures in careers, communities, and relationships.
As students grow through these leadership experiences, the values they hold begin to shine through. Leadership becomes visible in how they treat others, how they respond in challenging moments, and how they strive to create a better world—whether that world is within their school, local community, an organisation, or beyond.
Our values – positive, respectful, resilient and hardworking provide a structure to our behaviours. Values describe “how we be” whilst behaviours describe “how we act”. With this in mind leaders have the opportunity to:
- As Leaders, define and develop the “way” we be and act whilst
- As Ambassadors, model the “way”.
The culture of our school is product of the accepted behaviours of all in it. Leaders are the people who have the greatest influence on behaviour and as such control the culture.
The challenge is yours to build a culture that we can all be proud of.
