Sports

At James Nash State High School students are offered a diverse range of sporting opportunities.

Inter-school sports competitions are available for:

  • Rugby Union
  • Rugby League
  • Soccer
  • AFL
  • Netball
  • Hockey

 

Students have an ability to make representative regional teams in the following sports:

Tennis, Golf, Squash, Volleyball, Softball, Cricket, Touch Football, Rugby Union, Rugby League, Soccer, AFL, Netball, Hockey, and  Basketball.

Annual Sports Carnivals are held for Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics.  These carnivals are the base for the four representative houses to vie for the ‘James Nash House Cup’.  The four houses; Caledonia, Columbia, Glanmire and Phoenix are all named after historical gold mines from the Gympie Region.

 

James Nash SHS Athletics Carnival

The James Nash Athletics Carnival will run in Week 11 of this term.  The Athletics Carnival will be held on Friday 29 June, with the theme of “The 80s”.
The 1500m event will run on Tuesday 26 June, starting in Period 6.
The 3000m event will be run on Wednesday 27 June, during first and second break.
Yrs 7-9 from 10:45am – 11:25am
Yrs 10-12 from 1:05pm – 1:50pm
Students must have nominated for all Track & Field events this year. If you were away when this happened, please see Mrs Knight in the MPS staffroom.
 
Field events (Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shotput, Discus and Javelin) will be held on Thursday 28 June. 
Students MUST nominate for all field events and will not be permitted to be out of class if a nomination has not been received. Students who have nominated for the field events, will be issued with a wristband during care class that morning.
 
Parents are welcome to watch the field and track events, however are required to sign in and out via the office. A shaded parent’s area will be provided at each event for the main day and the field events. Please be aware that whilst we will endeavour to run on time, the times shown on the program below may differ slightly.
