At James Nash State High School students are offered a diverse range of sporting opportunities.

Students have an ability to make representative regional teams in the following sports:
- Tennis, Golf, Squash, Volleyball, Softball, Cricket, Touch Football, Rugby Union, Rugby League, Soccer, AFL, Netball, Hockey, and Basketball.
Annual Sports Carnivals are held for Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics. These carnivals are the base for the four representative houses to vie for the ‘James Nash House Cup’. The four houses; Caledonia, Columbia, Glanmire and Phoenix are all named after historical gold mines from the Gympie Region.
