The Gympie Trade Training Centre (GTTC) opened in Semester 2, 2014 at the TAFE Gympie campus. The GTTC was founded via a partnership between James Nash SHS (lead school), Gympie SHS, Saints Patrick’s College, Cooloola Christian College, Mary Valley State College, Tin Can Bay P-10 and Victory College. Several schools have since left this partnership. The GTTC offers certificate courses to senior students enrolled at the currently participating schools.
Courses
The available courses are designed for students interested in a career in the trade areas of construction, manufacturing and engineering.
Year 10
- Certificate I Construction CPC10111
Year 10 students spend most of their time at James Nash SHS and only travel to GTTC to engage in the Certifcate I work program. Students are strongly encouraged to enrol in and complete this course if they are considering applying for the GTTC program in years 11 and 12.
Year 11 + 12
- Certificate II in Furniture Making MSF20313#
- Certificate II in Engineering Pathways MEM20413#*
- Certificate II in Skills for Work FSK20113
- Industrial Graphics Skills
- Essential or General English
- Essential or General Mathematics
# MSF20131 and MEM20413 form the core of the GTTC course and are selected for the range of relevant industry skills and experience they offer.
* MEM20413 makes use of facilities provided and operated by TAFE Gympie campus.
During year 11, students spend one day per week studying an additional VET Certificate course offered by TAFE Gympie. The choice of courses depends on student enrolements but can include
Plumbing,
Electro-technology and
Automotive.
In year 12, students spend one day per week engaged in work experience in their chosen field of specialisation. Work experience is intended to give students a broader understanding of the trade area they are most interested in pursuing.
The centre operates on the same school days and lesson times as James Nash SHS.
