The 21st century has seen a growing demand for individuals that engage, understand, and apply scientific knowledge and skills in the community and workforce. Scientifically literate citizens have an excellent understanding of the world around them, and can argue informed views on social, ethical and environmental issues. These valuable assets are transferable to all facets of life.
The James Nash SHS Science Education and Research Centre endeavours to inspire learning and equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in higher education, industry, and society.
An engaging curriculum delivered by experienced, passionate teachers engages students in critical thinking skills, and builds a knowledge base which underpins the scientific perspective. The Science block contains fully equipped Science labs, exclusive senior research labs, a biotechnology research lab, and 6 classrooms all with data projectors, speakers and wireless internet. State of the art equipment such as data loggers, thermal cyclers and laminar flow cabinets aid in developing new learners, as well as providing the opportunity to refine skills through practical activities.
James Nash SHS has implemented the Australian Science Curriculum in years 7, 8, 9 and 10. Senior Science students are able to choose from three General Science subjects (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) and one Applied Science subject (Science in Practice). General subjects are suited to students interested in pathways beyond senior secondary schooling that lead to tertiary studies. Science in Practice provides students with an authentic, hands-on option that covers a range of disciplines. It is suited to students interested in future pathways leading to vocational education and training and work.
