Important notices for Senior School RE: end of year events

Year 11 Leadership Camp:
Our annual Year 11 Leadership Camp is scheduled to be held during Week 1, Term 4 2021. Students in Year 11 will have the option to either attend camp or participate in suitable work experience. All students wishing to attend camp must be financial. The School is currently working through final details in relation to transport and accommodation and expect the cost of the camp to range between $130.00 - $155.00 per student. This cost has risen in comparison to previous years due to Noosa Council increases to the camp and barges. We will be releasing more details later in Term 3. Students wishing to undertake work experience should see Mrs Kars or Mrs O in BA4 as soon as possible in Term 3 to secure a suitable placement.
Graduation 2021:
The James Nash SHS Graduation (formal) is scheduled to be held Wednesday 17 November 2021. At this stage, the School is planning for this event to be held at the Pavilion, Gympie Showgrounds, as has been done in previous years. The Year 12 students, in consultation with the JNSHS P&C, Formal Committee and School Executive have planned for the following:
▪ Parents will be invited to attend to watch arrivals, share canapes with students and view the formal component of the evening (introductions and presentations of certificates). The cost for parents to attend is $15pp. which will cover light refreshments and canapes. Parents will not remain for the dinner proceedings.
▪ The cost for students will be $65.00 per ticket.
▪ This will be a closed event and arrivals will not be open to the public. This decision has been made in light of the ever-evolving COVID-19 situation in the SEQ region and to limit open crowds at the event. Anyone wishing to enter the Showgrounds Complex will be required to have a wristband identifying them as a relation of a student, and this will be managed by security. While we understand formals are an exciting and celebratory event in our regional community, the safety and welfare of our students, staff and their families during the pandemic remains our utmost priority.
Plans for the formal will be finalised later in Term 3.
Please note that the details of these events may change as the COVID situation in our region changes in the coming months. James Nash has approached this year’s events with the key learnings of last year in mind and we aim to implement solutions to problems (such as minimising crowds and ticketing all external events) before they arise. Our key goal is to ensure these events can occur in a safe and controlled manner, providing our students with the opportunity to have happy and memorable occasions during their end of school life.
We thank you for your understanding and look forward to sharing further information with our community in the coming months.
