Students have a 5GB internet access allocated to them each month by Education Queensland (EQ). Their internet usage is tracked by EQ and when students exceed the 5GB limit their internet access is automatically stopped till the end of that month. As soon as the department informs us of internet access being blocked for a student, we provide advice to Care Class teachers so they can advise students of the loss of internet access. Each new month provides a new 5GB of internet access to each student.
Some students have been using their BYOd at school on non-school activities and have exceeded their data allocation limit. This then affects their ability to complete internet based class activities. In some cases, devices will conduct automatic updates. If your student exceeds the data allocation and knows that they have only used the school network for school work, we will advise them to see our IT technician, Mr Brown in the library who can then help to ascertain the problem and recommend some solutions.
While teachers do provide advice cautioning students to use their school data for school work and to see school IT technicians for advice, we believe additional reminders from home might help students to ensure they have enough data to complete their learning tasks at school.
