My name is Darrin Edwards and I am proud to be the Principal of James Nash State High School. Located on the northern side of the growing township of Gympie, James Nash State High School is a Band 10 secondary school in the Wide Bay-Burnett Region and services the communities of Cooloola, Tiaro and Kilkivan Shires. Parents are involved in school governance through School Council, Ladies Auxiliary (meet at 7:30pm 1st Wednesday of every month), Parents and Citizenship Association (meet at 7:30pm 4th Tuesday of every month) and through representation on our Key Planning Area Groups. We invite parents into the school to discuss their student’s progress at any time but we offer two formal occasions in the school year for parent/teacher interviews and issue written reports 3 times a year. |
NEWSFLASH 16 January 2012
Dear Parent/Guardians of Year 8 students 2012,
Welcome to 2012 at James Nash High. I hope you and your family have had an enjoyable holiday period and that your household is full of enthusiasm and anticipation for the beginning of Year 8 at James Nash. I am writing to you to remind you about my desire to ensure we work closely together to provide the best possible educational opportunities we can for your child. If there is anything we can assist you with, I encourage you to make contact directly with us and allow us the opportunity to address your query. For Year 8 students, I would encourage you to make your initial contacts with the school through your Assistant Principal-Junior School, Cheryl Greinke or through your Year 8 C0-ordinator, Rod Cross.
I am excited about the year ahead and about the innovations to be delivered in 2012. The introduction of the National Curriculum into Year 8 will provide National consistency for schools across Australia. I believe this will be of great benefit to all students and their families for years to come.
Though I am incredibly excited about the introduction of our new school uniform for this year, I am extremely disappointed to have to advise you, that in spite of our manufacturer guarantees, the new uniform shirts will not be delivered to the school until the first week of the school year. All other uniform items are in stock and are available for purchase but I sincerely apologise that the new shirts, that are the approved uniform for 2012, will not be available for Day 1 of this year.
We would still encourage you to come to the school on our uniform selling days and to purchase your uniforms and place your order for the new shirts when they arrive. For the first few days, until the shirts arrive, students will have the option to either:
1. Wear the formal uniform if you plan to purchase one. If this option is too hot for this time of year we will allow the formal shirts to be worn with the school shorts (This will only be an option until the new shirts arrive).
2. Wear your Year 7 shirt with the remainder of the James Nash Uniform OR
3. Wear a plain coloured, sun safe shirt with the remainder of the James Nash Uniform.
4. Talk to us about arrangements that best suit your circumstances.
I again apologise that this has occurred and appreciate your understanding. As a parent of school aged children, I also understand the importance of getting that photograph of your child on their first day of school in their uniform. To support you we will provide an opportunity for you to get a photograph with your child in B-Block before school begins wearing the prototype uniforms we had made up during our uniform review process. Though we only have a couple of sizes available I hope this will provide an opportunity to still get that piece of history you wanted.
We will hold additional uniform selling days, including another evening session, as soon as we have the stock at school. However if you have ordered and paid for your new shirts then students can collect them immediately they arrive at the school. If the size is not correct we can replace them with the correct size if the shirts are not worn. I will advertise these dates directly through your child at school. Please don’t hesitate to contact us about ways we can assist you to meet these expectations.
I would like to also remind you about the importance of purchasing footwear that will be compliant with our Health and Safety requirements. As communicated previously, footwear must enclose the foot fully and must be impervious to liquids (no mesh). If you are unsure about footwear just ask any of our local footwear suppliers as they will be fully aware of the expectations for all secondary schools in Gympie.
